The best inns, pubs, restaurants, cider bars and cafés in the Rax-Semmering region and the Bucklige Welt.
Here you will find our tips for a culinary tour around Semmering and Bucklige Welt – from traditional inns to modern Alpine cuisine, from cider at the farm to cake in the café.
We’ve tried everything.
Konditorei Alber – Payerbach
Reichenau rusks have long been famous beyond the region and originate from the traditional Alber bakery. The branch in Payerbach is a wonderful place to stop, whether for a break during a bike ride or at the end of a hike. Everything is produced in-house, fresh and lovingly made. Our personal favourite: the biscuits – delicate and slightly more compact than the supermarket product and almost even better than the famous rusks themselves.
And if you fancy a refreshing dip afterwards, the best place to do so is the small outdoor swimming pool in neighbouring Payerbach.

Das Päuschen – Gasteil
When we don’t feel like making breakfast ourselves, we drive to Päuschen in Gasteil. After just a 15-minute drive, we reach this beautiful spot, which is the perfect starting point for many great hikes. Our tip: enjoy a leisurely breakfast, explore the countryside around Gasteil and Priglitz, the Wiener Alpen and Rax-Semmering, and then refuel afterwards. A short trip that is definitely worthwhile! Thursday to Sunday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Looshaus – Kreuzberg
One of our favourite places in Semmering: the Looshaus at Kreuzberg. The location alone is special, and the building itself is truly unique – designed in 1930 by the famous Adolf Loos. Today, it is run with great flair by the Steiner family. Whether inside in the dining room or outside in the garden, you immediately sense the special atmosphere. The cuisine? Regional, uncomplicated and really good. No longer an insider tip – but one that you simply have to experience..

Schloss Wartholz bei Reichenau
Just 20 minutes from the Tiny House is Schloss Wartholz – a place where a quick coffee can easily turn into a half-day outing. First, enjoy a slice of cake in the stylish café, then take a stroll through the concept store with its many beautiful items. There are often readings, concerts or film evenings in the garden – the cultural programme is varied and surprisingly good. The atmosphere? Special. And you usually don’t go home empty-handed or without fresh ideas. Open Wednesday to Sunday.

Gasthaus Diewald – Raach am Hochgebirge
Our local hero, just a 10-minute walk away, and luckily it’s downhill back to the Feigenterrasse. 😉 At Gasthaus Diewald, you can eat and drink in style, enjoying home-cooked food and hospitality. Beautiful terrace with breathtaking views! And there’s also a small grocery shop for essential purchases.

Pebbles – St. Corona am Wechsel
And another insider tip for breakfast. It’s a 15-minute drive away, but well worth it: Pebbles in St. Corona is an experience. Deliciously sweet or irresistibly savoury, accompanied by homemade lemonades and refreshing sparkling drinks. Pebbles is a Feigenterrasse must-visit! (Please book in advance!)
